SO UTHERN COLORADO LEADERSHIP PROGRAM

Call for Applications

Deadline:   July 15, 2008

 

The Action 22 Foundation, Inc., in cooperation with Regis University, its Institute on the Common Good, will sponsor the SOUTHERN COLORADO LEADERSHIP PROGRAM September 2008 – April – 2008.

 

The program consists of a one-day session per month (except December).  The sessions focus on personal/inner skills and external projects and practical applications.  These sessions include conversations with regional and statewide leaders.      

 

Description and Purpose of the Program

 

  • Increase core leadership skills for developing effective solutions for the community.

  • Learn new techniques and tools for working in the current complex political and social environment of Colorado .

  • Develop a deeper understanding of one’s own leadership abilities and worldview.

  • Develop collaborative solutions to multifaceted regional issues.

 

WHO SHOULD APPLY

 

The program is seeking a diverse group of persons who are interested in collaboration across county and ideological lines to forge relationships and to change the landscape and improve the future of Southern Colorado .   Diversity in age, gender, educational and ethnic backgrounds, professions, demonstrated leadership (experienced/emerging) and geographic distribution in the Action 22 area is the goal.  We want you!

 

A long-term objective of this program is to help broaden and expand the pool of collaborative work on regional issues.   Persons living and working in the Action 22 area and who are committed to shaping the future of Southern Colorado qualify to apply.  County areas include: Alamosa, Baca, Bent, Chaffee, Cheyenne , Conejos, Costilla, Crowley , Custer, El Paso , Fremont , Huerfano, Kiowa, Las Animas, Mineral, Saguache, Otero, Park, Prowers, Pueblo , Rio Grande , and Teller.

  

A maximum of 24 per year will be selected. 

 

Program Dates

 

The one-day session is held on Fridays (except January) and  runs from 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m.

 

2008:  September 19 ( Pueblo ) – October 17(Alamosa) – November 14 (Salida)

2009: January 21( Denver ) – February 20 (La Junta) – March 20 ( Pueblo ) – April 17 ( Pueblo )

“Legislative Day at the Capitol” trip to State Capitol is scheduled on Wednesday, January 21, 2009

 

Applicant Checklist

 

Your submission must contain one original and can be submitted via e-mail (preferably) or mail.

 

  1. Completed application form.

  2. Essays:  

    1. 250-word essay:  Select a public policy that you believe needs attention.  Include your reasons as to why this policy issue is important to Southern Colorado and your ideas on how you would solve it through collaboration.  

    2. 250-word essay:  Discuss highlights of your recent leadership responsibilities and achievements. What were the greatest challenges you faced, and what steps did you take to overcome them? What did you learn from your experience?   . 

  3. Resume -- not to exceed two pages.

  4. Two (2) Letters of Reference

 

TUITION  

 

Tuition for the 7-month program is $600 per person – Action 22 Member Discount tuition $400 --  includes all sessions and meals. 

 

A limited number of scholarships are available and you are asked to mark the application if you are interested.

Selection Process

 

The Selection Committee will review all applications and may conduct interviews.  Candidates selected for interviews will be notified shortly after the deadline.      

 

Once selected, a commitment form to attend all sessions will be mailed to you along with details of the Program’s location, lodging and agenda.
